Spark Mail is one of the more popular email apps for Android, and it just got its Android 13 update. The main change that this update delivers is the Material You color matching, which Spark Mail users have been waiting for.

That’s not all, though. The Spark Mail UI design has been refreshed as part of this update too. The company says that it “revised every detail to make Spark feel more friendly, delightful, and native to the Android platform”.

Spark Mail gets Android 13 update and becomes more customizable because of it

The company promises “a more personalized experience” thanks to this update. That is mainly because you can now customize the app to match your phone’s wallpaper tint and colors. That’s the Material You color matching we’ve mentioned. All you have to do is change the system colors on your Android smartphone, and Spark will match the app with those.

How can you do that? Well, open Spark, and then head over to the app’s Settings. There, you need to tap the ‘Appearance’ option, and then switch the ‘Match system colors’ toggle.

Your Spark Mail’s app icon can now match your phone’s wallpaper tint

On top of this, you can also further customize Spark Mail’s app icon to match your phone’s wallpaper tint and colors. Not many apps offer this feature, but Spark Mail is now one of them.

Do note that your phone needs to support this feature. It has been introduced as part of Android 12 by Google. Pixel phones do support themed icons, as do some Android skins, but not all of them.

In order to activate this option on your phone, you’ll need to tap and hold an empty spot on your home screen. Find the ‘Wallpaper & style’ option in the pop-up menu (at least that’s the case on Pixels). Then find the ‘Themed icons’ toggle in the list. As you change the color schemes or update your wallpaper, Android will adjust the dominant color of icons automatically. Spark Mail icon included.

A new photo picker has also been added

The company also added a new photo picker to Spark Mail. The new photo picker shows all photos in one list with larger previews. That photo picker is also more secure, says the company. How? Well, when you add an attachment, now you can share only specific photos with Spark, not your entire library.

Setting a different language for the app is not a problem either

You can even change the language for Spark Mail now, to be different than the language of your smartphone. You can do that via your phone settings. Settings -> System -> Languages & Input – App languages, and find Spark in the list. You can also do it from the Spark Mail app. Simply go to Settings, tap on the “planet” icon, and choose your language.
