After a relatively slow rollout of the January 2023 Android security patch in the first couple of weeks, Samsung has picked up pace in recent days. Over the course of this week, the company has updated over a dozen Galaxy devices to the latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release). The new security update is now available for the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy XCover Pro in the US.

Samsung pushes the January 2023 update to more Galaxy devices in the US

The Galaxy Z Flip first picked up the January SMR in some international markets over two weeks ago. Users in the US were left out at that time. But the update is now rolling out stateside as well. Both LTE and 5G models of the original clamshell foldable from Samsung are getting the new release. The new firmware versions for the LTE model are F700USQS5HWA1 (carrier-locked) and F700U1TBS5HWA1 (unlocked).

Users with an unlocked 5G-enabled Galaxy Z Flip are getting the January security update with the firmware build number F707U1UES3GWA1. Carrier-locked units of the 5G model haven’t yet received the latest SMR in the US. But, those users may not need to wait for much longer now. Samsung should soon cover every single Galaxy Z Flip phone in the US with this month’s security release.

Meanwhile, if you’re using Samsung’s 2020 rugged smartphone Galaxy XCover Pro stateside, the January SMR is available for your phone. The handset only arrived unlocked here and it is widely getting the new security release. The updated firmware version for this phone is G715U1UESFDWA2 (via). The Galaxy XCover Pro is also getting the same update in some European countries with firmware version G715FNXXUBEWA2.

Unsurprisingly, neither the Galaxy XCover Pro nor the Galaxy Z Flip is getting any new features or changes with the latest update. The devices are only picking up this month’s security patch. Both models were recently updated to Android 13 with tons of goodies. As for the content of the January SMR, it brings more than 70 vulnerability fixes to these Galaxy devices. Dozens of them are high-severity vulnerabilities.

If you’re using either of these Samsung smartphones or any other Android-powered Galaxy device for that matter, you can check for new updates from the Settings app. Go to the Software update section and tap on Download and install.

If an update is available, you will be able to download it from there. If your phone hasn’t received any update, you can wait and check again later.
